Currently I am working on helping my friends (Matthew and Catherine), by working on little models here and there that they can use for their work which has to be in soon for their masters course. It’s a lot of work in a short period of time and I don’t envy them at all.
My first model was a dumpster for use in a robot factory, however it was no longer needed as another friend, Neil, already has one built and unwrapped so that will be used, though I will finish mine off which was to be normal mapped and specular mapped. The model was also pretty solid.
The model that has seen me working on it for the last 2 days is a low polygon car, intended for use as a police car to be used in a London environment. It’s the first time I have ever modelled a car and I didn’t find it as hard as I thought I would, though trying to eliminate triangles can be a right sod. Still working on it at the moment so I won’t post it now, but I should later (I know, I promised that of my Interface Design, but I am away from home at the moment).
The police car will be used in the Unreal Engine, so a limit of 3,000 triangles was used, this was a very tight limit, certainly as it is for a previous generation series of games, but I like modelling stuff to a brief, so that was fun.
I also have an idea of the project to undertake for my portfolio when I get my final project in. All I will say for now is that it’s quite easily the biggest undertaking I have ever taken…. ever…. taken…. EVER!
