It’s a sad day, but the hero of my childhood and favourite ever football player, Andrew ‘Andy’ Cole has retired after being released by Nottingham Forest Football Club.
Andy Cole became a legend at Manchester United winning golden boots and trophies galore in his years there and was the primary striker in our legendary 1999 Treble winning year and is the second highest goalscorer in Premiership history, not bad for someone who was never a penalty or free-kick taker.
Thank you for so many good times, now get on Sky and replace Jamie Redknapp!
was also lucky enough to be amongst the first, if not the first Man Utd fan to have his name on the back of a shirt – being in the store when it was announced on the radio that he’d signed for Manchester United, the shop phoned Old Trafford to find out his shirt number and I had it stamped there and then (after originally going in to get Kanchelskis).

He was brilliant. He played when I was still heavily into football and I followed his career through Newcastle and Man Utd. When you said Kanchelskis I had fond memories heh.
Did prefer the Premiership’s highest goalscorer of all time though
Pity Cole never played for England as well as he did for Newcastle or Man Utd.
