A couple of reports regarding actors and characters to be involved in the 3rd new Batman movie have emerged, as expected, it features The Riddler, something Gary Oldman let slip in an Interview just before the release of The Dark Knight, however the exciting news is regarding the actor they are looking at to fill the role. With TDK taking in over $450m already they are confident they can acquire anyone they want, and with a high quality cast already in place and massive returns guaranteed they can cherry pick.
With that, the rumour is that they have their sights on none other than Johnny Depp to fulfil the role of The Riddler. A role which is just about perfect when you think about it. Depp could certainly play it and it would be nice to see Depp back in dark roles, something he became famous for in the first place, back in the days of Edward Scissorhands, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Sleepy Hollow.
The Riddler was originally played by Jim Carrey brilliantly, but it was a more comic wacky role and he did it very, very well – he was my favourite villain in the last series of movies, but perhaps he’s not quite right for the role this time around – though I wouldn’t complain if he’s chosen again.
The second rumour is that there will be two villains, again, not entirely surprising as that has been the case in every batman movie bar the original 1989 movie and that they will be revisiting another of Batmans old nemeses, The Penguin who I have to admit, is my least favourite enemy, but reports are that they want Philip Seymour Hoffman to play the role which would be a great choice, though I have yet to see his best performance in Copote unfortunately, but from what I have seen in many other films, he’d be a good choice and he’s no stranger to being a villain having played the role of Owen Davian in Mission Impossible 3.
It would also be yet another Oscar winner (Philip Seymour Hoffman) added to the cast, joining Michael Caine (x2) and Morgan Freeman, joining Oscar nominees, Christopher Nolan (director), Liam Neeson, Tom Wilkinson, Heath Ledger and Eric Roberts as well as Johnny Depp if he joins, obviously.
And people wonder why Chrisopher Nolans’ series of Batman movies are so highly anticipated!
I still haven’t seen Dark Knight, But I definitely need to see it soon. It sounds fantastic. As for Johnny Depp as the Riddler!! That would be fantastic, He’s not far away with the character he portrays in Charlie and the Chocolate factory! haha, Just give him the obvious homicidal twist and you’re there. Without giving away too much Dark Knight story, I was under the impression we were going to witness the birth of two-face, in Dark Knight. I take it he wont be returning in a sequel, to add a 3rd bad guy to the mix.
Penguin will not be making an appearance ever again, nolan has already said he won’t be doing penguin, as hes utter shite
