30JunA Busy Boy

For those wondering why there has been little seen of me on my blog, on IRC or on Overclockers, it’s because I’ve been a busy boy of late doing the most dreaded of all things… manual labour.

I’ve been gardening! The problem with that is that I hate gardening. I hate dirt and insects so I’m not naturally inclined to go digging stuff up, but that’s exactly what I’ve been doing this past week. My parents are sorting the garden out and from the drawn plans, it should be nice, a patio, turf, tree, water feature and plants… and hopefully a barbecue because let’s face it, what good is a garden without a barbecue?

Unfortunately the state of our garden was a disgrace. When the house was bought you could get turf but at a very high price, and it couldn’t be afforded, unfortunately the state of the garden was horrific and required several goings over with a strimmer and plenty of digging, both of weeds and of the surface layer of mud for the patio and to stop the grass coming through. The garden itself isn’t small (nor is it acres :p), but it’s been a phenomenal amount of work which involved raking up all the grass, digging out all the weeds, digging up all the mud into a pile. Now that the garden is all dug up the pile of mud needed putting into the large hired skip which is at the front of the house, so it involves digging what I’ve already dug, putting it into a wheelbarrow then digging it back out into the skip (or if someone was willing to help, tip it into the skip – Thanks Lee!).

My Garden

I’ve been shattered and haven’t been up to much else, it’s just a good job I’m quite a big lad (5′11″ and 12.5st) otherwise I’d be completely out on my feet. It’s not entirely finished, but it will be before the weekend, hopefully someone can get in and help me, Matthew and Stephen lucked out on the basis that they’re both in different continents (Africa and North America respectively) and Lee is going away this weekend, My father is away on work and my mother has an infection in her gums… Everyone’s doing it on purpose I swear…

So that’s why I’ve not been updating, but I will make up for that the next couple of days as my hands are blistered and cut to hell, so taking a day off from the shovelling.

30JunMing-Eye

Those of you curious to see my conjunctivitis eye, I found the charger for the camera and it’s now uploaded.
Be warned, it’s not pretty… the eye that is :p.

Prepare yourself – click here.

Also, this is just as I woke up, so my hair is a bit of a mess and my face = uber puffy. :o .

29JunAnd the Winners are…

Spain win Euro 2008

The Spanish are the champions of Europe, winning only their second ever major trophy. The perennial underachievers defeated Germany by one goal to nil thanks to Liverpools dynamic frontman, Fernando Torres.

Spain, for me, definitely deserved the win, not only because they were the only team trying to actively win the match in the final, but because consistently they played the best football all tournament. I originally supported Portugal at the beginning of the tournament, but after seeing players like Petit play over Veloso, Simao over Quaresma/Nani and Deco constantly give the ball away I became frustrated and decided to just enjoy the tournament.

Officially Spain also won the official player of the tournament in the form of Barcelona midfielder, Xavi. How he won this I don’t know, he certainly wouldn’t make my tournament XI, for me Fabregas was easily the player of the tournament with players like Ramos and Ballack coming close.

Thankfully on the basis of this tournament we won’t see Man Utd make any impulse buys, only the players you expected to shine shone bar a few of the Croations such as Pranjic or Simunic, neither of whom I would have in the United team, so that’s definitely a positive as we’ve been guilty of it in the past (Cruyff, Kleberson and Poborski come to mind).

Well done Spain, congratulations.

Now we have Wimbledon on the go too, then the Premier League soon enough.

22JunNew Layout At Halycopter!

Frequent blogger and blogrollee, Haly has updated her blog with a spanking new layout and I can honestly say, I love it! It’s so much better than her last one and almost as good as mine ;) .

She’s also updated a lot of her reviews from other sites which firstly makes it an excellent read and secondly shows just how lazy I’ve been writing my own.

Get over there and comment on her new layout!

21JunA New Burger At BK!

I’m not a fast food addict by any means, I’d much prefer to make something in the kitchen, and often do, but I do like one every now and again. Today, something caught my eye regarding a new burger at my fast food chain of choice, Burger King.

Burger Kings, The Burger. It features flame grilled Wagyu Beef, topped with white truffles, onion tempura prepared in Cristal champagne and Italy’s finest Pata Negra prosciutto in an Iranian saffron and truffle bun, so it certainly sounds the part, and by part I mean tasty.

Today in the Telegraph was a mention of a new burger starting at Burger King simply called, ‘The Burger’, genius in its simplicity, unfortunate for those going to the counter and asking for ‘two burgers please’ however…

The burger itself isn’t technically new ‘news’, I’ve known about it for a while, or atleast the rumours of its creation, but heard nothing more of it. ‘The Burger’ is set to go on sale in the U.K. only, and I would assume only very select stores too, because the price tag of this badboy is £95 Great British stirling…. ouch.
Burger King’s, ‘The Burger’, is their attempt at creating the World’s most expensive burger, topping the American Double Truffle Burger of 1994, which cost only £65.

There is no doubting that this is a huge publicity stunt, probably an attempt to get one over on the competition who have desperately tried to promote healthy eating and have convinced those of … simpler… minds that that’s the case. ‘The Burger’ shouldn’t really come as a surprise in a world where Selfridges sell the World’s most expensive sandwich at £85 and Peter Jones Department Store charges £50 for a cup of coffee, the biggest surprise is that it’s Burger King doing so and not some high-end London restaurant.

However… I do want one…
